Ritual Artistry
Cynthia Jones and River (Chicago)
11:00 am

Creating ritual for groups can be both the most rewarding and the most challenging aspect of community leadership. Whether you are interested in designing effective ritual for a small coven or for the public at large, this class will help you learn the basics of setting intention, collaborative planning, and manifesting the plan through logistics. We will work with the creation of an inclusive invocation as an exercise, looking at the steps of planning an invocation in a team as well as what an inclusive invocation should do. Join us to learn the art of ritual creation as a tool for building community, and increase your ritual tools for engaging and including participants at your next ritual.

Lunch Discussion: Ritual Arts
Cynthia Jones, River (Chicago), Shaun Perkins
Discuss ritual tools and techniques with some experienced ritual artists. This is a great time to ask questions in a more relaxed, conversational format.

Trance: Introduction to Double-Voice Trance
Sisalfish and Laurie Dietrich
1:15 pm

Double-voice trance is used at Diana's Grove, and by those trained there, to heighten the experiential nature of ritual, to promote learning and to support personal transformation and healing. Rooted in the principles of Ericksonian hypnotherapy and alchemical psychology, double-voice trance, as developed by Diana's Grove co-founders Cynthia Jones and Patricia Storm, is based on the understanding that we each have, within us, the power to heal ourselves. Join us for an introductory workshop on inclusive trance language and approaches that speak to the subconscious. Two by two, we'll explore what makes double-voice trance a magical experience for facilitators and participants as well.

Stepping Into Deathwork: Priestessing to the Dying
Sisalfish and Laurie Dietrich
2:45 pm
In times past, the transition into death was considered to be as natural as birth - a time when the tribe gathered to offer unflinching support and reverent witness. Amid the sterility of our modern, death-denying society, Earth-based approaches to death and dying offer ways to reclaim the sacred nature of this passage. This introductory session will offer participants an opportunity to step into a relationship with Death - a relationship that can support them in the important work of participating in and priestessing that inevitable transition.

Ritual Energetics: Rhythm, Movement, & Song
River (Chicago), Lucinda Sohn, Shauna Aura
4:15 pm
Experience ritual as a full-bodied, multisensorial prayer. Use your body--your voice, your moment, and rhythm, as a tool for transcendence. The Diana's Grove style of ritual is ecstatic, which means we build energy during the course of a whole ritual. Every time a participant adds their voice and body to the ritual, every time a particicpant is included, they add their energy. We will explore how you can use the gifts you were born with--your voice and body--to add your own energy to each piece in a ritual. We will close by raising energy and looking at the layers of drum, voice, chanting, and movement and how they work to build the energy; together, let's work with the energetics of ritual that helps us lay new patterns in our souls.

This workshop will explore the elements of myth or the hero's journey, and help us see the elements of the pattern inside these stories. If you are a writer or someone who wants to begin writing, if you are yearning to reach others with your words, knowing those mythic elements might be one key to making a story or a poem or an essay or a memoir insightful for you and relevant to others.Poetry, short stories, memoir, a novel, journal-writing….the genre you choose is totally up to you. You will have the opportunity to do a writing exercise so that you may craft the journey--whether it's for the character of a story, or you as the hero of the story that is your own life. Step into the quest and learn how writing with archetype can call to our deepest desires.

Collage: Creating your "Outcome" Card in the Celtic Cross
Julee Higginbotham, Kathleen, Michelle Solvej
2:45 pm
Earlier in the day Cynthia Jones presented on how the Celtic Cross can be used as a spell to help us work towards our own personal growth. We begin that work with the Outcome card; what do you want to become? When you have transformed into the Self you are becoming, what does that look like or feel like? This workshop is an opportunity to work with your Deep Self and create a collage to represent what it feels like when you have become your Expanded Self. No artistic ability or previous experience with collage or tarot is required. This workshop will begin with a chance to center into yourself and the feelings of your Outcome through trance and meditation. There will be space to work on your collage, and time at the end for sharing.

Enjoy a little storytelling with someone passionate about these myths and gain a deeper understanding of stories you may have heard, or are interested in hearing.

Experiential Tarot
Jennifer Byers
11:00 am

Experience Tarot by exploring an archetype; this workshop is great for someone new to Tarot or with years of experience. We will work with the Major Arcana; each particpant will have an opportunity to sit with, and embody, one of the Major Arcana cards. We will learn tools to understand and interpret these cards that go beyond memorizing what each card is about. Learn about Tarot and the archetypes within by listening to the stories each card tells. Storytelling, numerology, physical motion, and oracling will help you own personal relationship with your Tarot cards. El Bee
4:15 pm

What do you feed your fire, how do you care for it? Work with Breed, Celtic goddess of the triple flame, to tend your own fires.

Post-Workshop Events

Closing Circle
Everyone
5:15 pm
Together, we acknowledge the community that has formed during this day, the circle that has formed around us as we have done this work together. We will gather together as a group in the large event space, perhaps sing a chant as a preview for the evening's ritual, and then part ways. Those who are interested may participate in the Elemental Invocations, and others may head straight out to dinner on Delmar before attending the evening's ritual.

Elemental Invocations
Shaun Perkins, Susan Morse, sisalfish, Raven, Michelle Solvej
5:20 pm
Step into the evening's Imbolc ritual by participating in a community-created invocation. You may join one elemental team; choose from Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Center, and create an inclusive, embodied invocation. This is a great way to step fully into participation in ritual, and to more fully and deeply experience an element, as we create invocations that serve the intention of the ritual.

In the Diana's Grove ritual style, Air is not summoned with a liturgy, but invoked by each of us. Can you feel the wind blowing? What does it sound like? What are the gifts of Air? Does Air have a color for you? How does Air move? Can you make the motion of Air, or make the sounds of Air? Can you speak the gifts of Air into the circle that they may be present with us for our work tonight?
